Mediation Services in Essex โ€”

Your Options

Finding the right mediation support in Essex and East Anglia.

Mediation is now a near-mandatory step before most family court applications, and a genuinely useful process for many separating couples. If you are based in Essex and looking for mediation services, there are a number of options available, both in person and online.

Finding a mediator in Essex

Mediators in England and Wales are regulated by the Family Mediation Council (FMC). To find an FMC-accredited mediator in Essex:

  • Use the FMC's mediator finder at familymediationcouncil.org.uk
  • Use the Gov.uk mediation service finder
  • Ask your solicitor for a recommendation

Legal aid for mediation

Legal aid is still available for family mediation for those who qualify financially. If you believe you may be eligible, check with a mediator or Citizens Advice.

Online mediation

Many mediators now offer sessions via video call, which can make the process more accessible, particularly for those with childcare responsibilities or who live in different parts of the county.

Support alongside mediation

The Separation Companion can provide practical support alongside the mediation process, helping you prepare for sessions, understand what has been agreed and manage the admin that comes with it.
